Sports and people...

This is the season of sports and some really important tournaments. To start with we had the little boring Asia cup in cricket, and then there is Wimbledon, with some really interesting games, and of course there is the FIFA world cup in food ball. My summer holidays during my school days have always been aligned to the latest sport tournament. Like during the cricket world cup season, it was street cricket and room crickets and book crickets all the way, during Wimbledon, it was again street and room tennis (more of a squash with a tennis ball), and during football world cups it was football in the hallways and the terraces!
Ok, this is not what I wanted to write about. Now I am all grown up and don't dedicate much time to sports, but I do get to play some not so serious sports and games once in a while. And every time it was a different set of game partners and oppositions. And each one/team plays the game for a different reason. Consciously or unconsciously I always used to analyze some one's character based on how/he plays his sport. Here are a few categories, I have analyzed so far..

The play-to-win types....

The first of the categories are the serious competitors who play the game just for one motto, To win! They don't care who their opponents and what turf and circumstances they play on, they just want to win. They bring on the competitive and fighting spirit on to the field that it is just impossible for you to defeat them. They might just be average in that particular game, but then they have that never-say-die-attitude that it is impossible to get past them. In real life they are the heroes. Which ever task they take up, they give their 100% and try to succeed. But on the flip side, they are not great team players. They look at their success first before the team's.m

The "serious-about-the-game" types...

These are the bookish gamers. They always play by the rules. And never are ready to bend them. It is tough to play with these folks, as they often are about doing the right way. Like for example a friend of mine just refused to play a street cricket game because one of his team members had to leave mid way, and he said playing with an uneven team is not right!! They can be fun sometimes, when you are serious about the game and want to learn more about the game and the strategies. In real life, they are the honest, not so very successful people. Well they would be possessing the good qualities of a team player, but you put them into a totally new environment, they would take a while to adjust.

The "no-matter-what-the-game-must-go-on" types...

These are the zealous ones. They just want to go out and play. They dont care what game it is, who they are playing with, and how long they are going to play. They just want to go there and play. They dont even care if the game finishes or not. They dont look at the scores much, but they just wanna go on. In real life, they are the 'go-to' guys. You know they have the zest to go on and on, and you give them the tough job, they would not give up. They are the ones who really enjoy the work they do.

The "I-just-play-for-the-fun" types...

These are the "fun" lovers. They just play for fun. They dont care where, what and how the game is played. They are the ones that provide the "lighter moments" in the team and in the game. They are never good at the game they play, but still they play. Most get ridiculed and take it in the right spirit, or self ridicule themselves to give an opportunity for others to loosen up. You wanna play a serious game, just dont take them into your team. But if you are just playing to while off your time, they have to be there in your team, at the top! In real life, they are the fun guys in the team. Might not be very good at the job, but would definitely not be chucked out of the team. There would never be a dull moment when they are around.

The boring types...

The name says it all. They are just boring. They come play, may be because they were asked to, or they had nothing else better to do. They never want to know the rules, they never want to enjoy the game. They are just there, as another team member in the team. They dont show much interest in who's winning and who's losing. In real life, of course they are the boring types. Never take part in any team activities, come do their work, and do. Never go the extra mile to do something new. Quite the dull type.

These are just a few major categories.. there are still a few minor groups like the "I-have-to-beat-this-guy" types, a.k.a the vengeance group, the "My-girlfriend-likes-me-doing-this" types, the "I-am-not-participating" types, and the list goes on!

I know where I belong.. do you?

Pee cycles!

Summer time.. and guess what folks, unless u drink a lot of water you are gonna have a tough time surviving in India. Ah, the dehydration, the thirst, the parched throat. Well, as far as you get adequate supply of good drinking water you are still fine with it. But yeah, more the water consumption just means more visits to the rest room!! I donno if it is the water or the A/C, i tend to pee like every hour. And I always used to think that I had a weak bladder and I am the only one in my whole floor to visit the rest room that often.
But the surprisingly, I did notice there was another gentleman who frequented the toilet as many times as I did. Oh no, dont think that I sit near the rest room and make a note of whos visiting the loo how many times. It just happens that me and him have the same 'Pee cycles'. Nature calls us almost the same time, every time, to the rest room!
Well, everytime I visited the loo, there he was peeing or washing his hands after peeing.... i dint notice it the first 2-3 times..but then after a point I did realise that I see him quite often at the loo.... and he visits it almost the same time I do. And it is quite wierd how two people can have the same 'pee cycle' .. Next time I am gonna meet him in the loo, I am gonna ask him to visit my blog and check out this post :)

Internet and me..

I still vividly remember, it was in my 12th standard holidays when I got introduced to the world of internet. Myself and one of my very close friends from school always wanted to get acquainted to the world of internet. Some of our friends were introduced to internet already, and were quite conversant about it, and used to discuss about the msn messengers and the mail chats. Well, we were just ignorant, and were not brave enough to accept that we knew nothing of internet and showed as though we were not interested in knowing it! We knew we had to start from somewhere. Neither could we ask our friends to teach us, nor we had the money or guts to go to an internet center to browse. And even if we had money, what would we actually go and do in a net center, cause we knew nothing in internet. And most of all we were ashamed to ask anyone!!!!. And neither could we afford internet at home. Well, leave alone internet, there were not even PCs at home. So we had to first build the stable before we could actually buy the horse. So we just left it there and decided that we would continue to nod and fake as though we knew internet, in and out.

Meanwhile, while doing our daily around-the-town strolls, we stumbled upon a newly opened internet cafĂ©’s advertisement which read ‘Who said you need to know computers and internet? Come over, we can teach you!!’ or something of that sort. And we got quite excited and thought finally there was one place where we could go and tell that we dint know internet, and that they have to actually ‘teach’ us to browse. One evening, we braved ourselves, shed our embarrassment (of telling him we don’t know anything in internet), and went to the browsing center. I still remember the name of the center, it was Ganesh browsing center, which happened to be my happy hunting ground for the next 3-4 four years.

There, we told the center guy that we know nothing in internet and that he has to teach us, as he had advertised. And all he said was ‘Go to google.com and search and it will tell you everything about internet and emails.’ Ah.. what a revelation. Honestly, that day we thought he gave us the most sacred info about the internet world, and we look upon him with awe and he was our hero since then, for a very long time!!! As instructed we typed in google.com and searched for ‘email address creation’ or something of that sort. And it gave out some zillion search results. And out of nowhere my friend remembered this website www.england.com and he said that some of his friends have email accounts there. Getting a little excited, we browsed thro the site, and with some amount of difficulty, created our first respective email addresses. And after that whenever anyone ever asked for email address I would proudly give my England.com one, and amaze them. Hardly did I knew that England.com was some unknown, unheard of website! Who cares anyways? I had my email address and my own inbox!!!

And after that every other day I would go to Ganesh center to check emails and send emails to every single person on earth. From my uncles to grand aunts to college friends whom I meet every day! Apart from checking mails, I also indulged in some porn surfing. Honestly, I was fascinated by the world of porn in internet, and every time I get into the closed cubicle of the browsing center, I would have opened up atleast some 20-30 different windows.. viewing all sorts of craps. Actually that’s what most of the men who come there do. Those days internet porn were the best.. they were free of cost, of international quality, aplenty in number, lots of varieties, and most importantly they were available in the closed confines of an internet closed (or sometimes screened) cubicle.

That’s how I got introduced to the world of internet, And since then it has amazed me to such an extent that it keeps me hooked on to it, even today. Every day I seem to discover a new website or a new chat server or a new blog site or a new download site or a new social networking site… …and the list goes on.

Of course I have not forgotten my internet roots.. I still check my mails, just that it is in through own sophisticated igoogle website and yeah… I still browse through some occasional porn J.

Life has changed a great deal, from a novice to a pro, I have seen me develop, learning the nuances of internet and the netiquettes all by myself. I pity those kids of these days, who are introduced to computers and internet at a very early age, and have nothing new to discover. Well, on second thoughts, am sure when they grow old, they would have their own fond memories of how they went about learning how to use the XBOX or the PS3s and amaze at their kids as to how easily they handle the consoles!!

Life is all about learning, and am so proud that I learnt the art of surfing, all by myself and not just by ‘googling’ or going through a ‘wikipedia’ information page.

And am still discovering……………….. :) :)

Am i the "Savant"

There u go..

Finally i got to create a blog!!

Well have always detested it..... the concept of "blogging" and thought it was for the bored group of people, who had nothing else but to write about their day to day "not-so-interesting" happenings.

But well here i am.... writing a blog of my own.. may be a result of boredom, or a result of some lovely blogs i came across, and the amount of creativity that pours in!!

Ok now coming to the point, people might be wondering whats this "Vasant the Savant" all about!

Being a crossie fanatic (yes i solve or at least attempt to solve the Hindu crossword everyday), i was quite fascinated about the concept of "Anagrams" and it turns out that my name (- the letter "h") is an anagram of the word "Savant" which means a learned person :)

Now don't dwell into the relevance of the words.. but it is an anagram never the less :)

Would wanna make this blog as interesting as possible, so would try my best to do the same...
